Return of the Reds

Come celebrate the start of the red salmon run and what that means to the Kenai Peninsula by joining in the fun at the Return of the Reds event on June 3rd at the Kenai City Dock from 12-3 pm. The very first fish of the season will be auctioned off to benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank in their fight against hunger on the Kenai Peninsula. There will also be a salmon cook-off between local chefs to see who can deliver the best tasting sockeye dish to discerning judges. With music, educational booths, and delicious food, there will be fun for everyone!

This free community barbeque celebrates spring by partnering with many Kenai Peninsula organizations to provide our community with information on resources, sustainability, and more. King of the River

Who will be the King of the River? Kenai or Soldotna? Let’s find out! July 2, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Kenai and Soldotna will compete to see which city is able to gather the most non-perishable food and monetary donations for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. Every $1 donated is equal to about 1 pound of food. There will be two locations (Carl’s Jr lot in Kenai and Blazy Mall in Soldotna) for individuals to donate food or money—just look for the KPFB trucks. Although the competition will take place on the 2nd, donations will be accepted for a week leading up to the event on-site at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, just tell them which city you’re donating from. Anyone who donates will be entered into a drawing to win $1,000. The winner will be drawn at the Oilers game on July 4, 2023. Depending on which city wins the King of the River food drive, that city’s mayor will be throwing the first pitch of the game. We will be having a BBQ at the game with Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Micciche, Kenai Mayor Gabriel, Soldotna Vice Mayor Parker, Senator Bjorkman, and Representative Ruffridge on the grill serving FREE hot dogs and drinks for all attendees. 28th Annual Kenai Peninsula Food Bank Soup Supper & Auction

If that’s you, then join us at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank for our 28th annual Soup Supper Dinner and Auction Fundraiser to help raise funds for feeding our neighbors in need! The fundraiser is on Saturday, August 19th from 5-9pm at the Soldotna Sports Complex.
